Speech and Language Therapy fees reflect not only the time spent with your child, but also the professional work involved in assessment, analysis, planning, preparation and record keeping.

Initial assessment
Most initial assessments cost £250–£300.
An initial assessment will typically include a 60–90 minute face-to-face appointment, followed by the clinical work needed to score and analyse findings, consider what they mean for your child and prepare appropriate recommendations.
The exact cost will depend on the nature and extent of assessment required. Straightforward assessments may cost less, while more extensive assessments may cost more.
If it becomes apparent that further assessment is required, this will be discussed with you before additional costs are incurred.
Therapy
A typical therapy session costs £87.50 and includes:
- approximately 30 minutes of direct therapy with your child
- approximately 15 minutes of feedback and liaison with parents, carers or education staff
- 30 minutes of associated professional time for reviewing the session, record keeping, preparation and planning
This means the fee covers 75 minutes of professional time, rather than only the time spent directly with your child.
Occasionally, a child’s needs may require a different session format. Where this is the case, this will be discussed with you.
Additional professional work
Routine communication directly related to your child’s therapy is included within the usual session fee.
Occasionally, additional work may be requested or recommended outside this. This might include more extensive liaison with other professionals, attendance at meetings, additional written information or reports, or work requested between appointments.
Where additional professional time is likely to incur a fee, this will be discussed and agreed with you beforehand and charged at my professional hourly rate of £70 per hour.
Travel
I am based between Carlisle and Penrith and travel to homes, schools and other settings for appointments. Travel charges may apply depending on location.
Mileage
The first 10 miles of travel in each direction are free of charge. Any mileage beyond this is charged at 60p per mile.
Travel time
There is no charge for the first 15 minutes of travel in each direction.
For journeys taking longer than 15 minutes, the travel time beyond the first 15 minutes is charged at £35 per hour (half my usual professional hourly rate).
Travel time is calculated using the usual journey time shown by Google Maps rather than the actual journey time on the day, so you will not be charged extra because of unexpected delays such as roadworks or heavy traffic.
Where travel charges apply, I can give you an indication of these before arranging an appointment.
Professional hourly rate
My professional hourly rate is £70 per hour.
This rate is used where work falls outside one of the standard arrangements described above. Any additional chargeable work will be discussed with you before it is undertaken.
